Bhutan, the secret Shangri La or ”the country with the peaceful thunder dragon”, is one the best kept secrets among travel destinations today.
The few people who have seen this mysterious kingdom have found a rich, antique Buddhist culture in an amazing landscape. We will drive across the country, from west to east. We will arrive in cities where there are no tourists, visit tiny countrysides up in the mountains, say hi to school children and monks and see farmers who work in the green landscape. You can find all of this in the country that is so beautiful placed in the Himalayas.
Not a lot of europeans have visited the beautiful and very special country since it was more or less closed until the 60’s.
To experience this on motorcycle is a dream! Curvy roads up to high attitude. Amazing views of snowy tops of Himalaya. We drive through forests that are filled with rhododendron and out on pasture land, along crystal clear rivers where we also go for a swim. This trip is a mix between beautiful asphalt roads and rough off-road paths.
This is a trip you will never forget! Join us!

Delhi - Paro
In the morning we fly to Paro in Bhutan. The flight to Paro (2280 m) with Druk Air is spectacular. When the weather is nice you get an amazing view of the world’s highest mountain tops. We land in a green lush valley called Paro and when we get off the flight we get to experience the fresh air from Himalaya. After we’ve checked into the hotel we have the rest of the day off to stroll around on Paro’s streets and have a look at the motorcycles. We drive around a bit and get to know the traffic in Bhutan. We have a look at ”Tigers Nest Monastery”, a landmark in Bhutan. Paro - Thimphu (60 km)
Thimphu – Punakha (77 km)
After breakfast we drive towards Punakha, the old winter capital city in Bhutan. On our way we cross Dochula Pass on 3150 m. We get a great view of the east side of Himalaya. We drive back down on several hairpin-curves to Phunaka Vallet which is placed at around 1400 meters. On our way we get a great view of mountains and valleys. When we arrive we visit the beautiful Punakha Dzong, also known as the ”happiess palace”. After such we go exploring along a beautiful river. If anyone’s keen for a swim, you just have to jump in. After that we drive though countrysides where we meet school children and farmers out on the field. At sunset we drive back to our hotel after an unforgettable day on the bike. Punakha – Trongsa (168 km)
Today we are going to drive to Trongsa and we will pass the little city Wangdue that is located on 1350 m attitude and later on Pelela at 3300 m attidtude. After we’ve enjoyed the view we will drive down again along pastures to Sephu, and the on to the historic Chendebji Chorten. We eat our dinner that we brought with us and then continue our drive to Trongsa. The road offers lots of curves, beautiful waterfalls and thick forests. At the end we will get an amazing view of the southern part of Trongsa Valley and Trongsa Dzong.Trongsa - Bumthang (68 km)
After breakfast we visit the amazing Tronga Dzong and a museum in the old guard tower. We will watch an interesting film about the history of Bhutan. Our trip today is not too far, but we definitely experience lots of things! We drive through several interesting countrysides and turn up to Yutongla at 3400 m, before we head down again and into the beautiful Bumthang Valley. If we get there early we will get the chance to experience the countryside with its interesting bank and postoffice where you can buy very special stamps from Bhutan.Bumthang. Local trips.
Bumthang - Mongar (198 km)
Today we drive through a very special landscape. The view the first 3 hours remind us of the Alps that surrounds the idyllic countrysides. Today we will only have one pass to cross and that is Thrumshinga pass of 3750 m. If the weather is on our side we can see Mr. Gangkhar Phuenseum. It is the world’s highest mountain that has not been climbed. It is 7541 MAMSL. After we crossed our pass we are now officially in East-Bhutan. To ”celebrate” this the road curves down 2800m in 2 hours! We will notice the temperature and vegetation change. The roads here are dramatic with several cliff hang areas. When we get closer to Mongar the air gets thicker and the vegetation gets lush and green.Mongar - Trashigang (92 km)
Trashigang - Trashiyangtse - Trashigang (130 km)
Trashigang - Samdrup Jongkhar (180 km)
This is the last day in Bhutan and we take the opportunity to drive on a few curvy roads. Along the entire road nature is lush and green. After we’ve driven though several countrysides we will get to the end of Samdrup Jongkhar. We have now driven our motorcycles from west to east though the entire kingdom Bhutan!
